GNU FriBidi is a free software library that implements the Unicode Bidirectional algorithm.[1] FriBidi is used directly or indirectly in some free software text rendering subsystems, like Pango (used in GNOME) and Adium, as well as the text rendering parts of AbiWord and mplayer. It is needed to render texts in languages like Arabic, Persian, and Hebrew.

FriBidi claims to implement a completely standard-compatible Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm.
