JagoClient is a a popular software client for playing Go online. It is was originally created and is currently maintained as an open-source project by René Grothmann under the GNU Public License.

Jago is written in Java, so it is available for many platforms, including: Windows, Linux, and Macintosh. It features both a Graphical User Interface as well as a custom command-line interface for interacting with Go servers.

Its features include:

  • Go Modem Protocol support, primarily for playing against Go programs with artificial intelligence such as GnuGo.
  • Built-in server support for IGS, WING, and the LGS.
  • Peer-to-peer connections between two JagoClient programs (rather than through a server).
  • A full-featured game replay system that can read both SGF and XML file formats.
  • Multi-lingual support, currently including:
    • German
    • English
    • Russian
    • Japanese
    • Chinese
    • Korean
    • Polish
    • Italian
