The MercuryBoard bulletin board system written in PHP and MySQL. It's object oriented, multi-lingual and uses detailed groups and/or user permissions. It has appealed to those with limited resources or those interested in doing customizations to the code. This is because it takes advantage of the speed MySQL can bring as well as being clear, easy to understand object oriented code.

[edit] History

MercuryBoard was originally started by Jason Warner and Mark Elliot, though most of the more recent development has been by Jason Warner. November 20, 2003, it reached version 1.0 after about two years in beta. Despite numerous suggestions from classmates, Warner refused to commercialize MercuryBoard, citing a long ago made promise to MercuryBoard's users that the software would always remain free. In 2005 Warner started college, bringing a halt to further development on the project.
