xedit is a text editor for the X Window System. It uses the Athena (Xaw) widget set.

Originally written during the days of the MIT X Consortium (late in 1987 by Chris D. Peterson, it was relatively untouched until the late 1990's.[1] The current version of xedit was modified by Paulo César Pereira de Andrade beginning in 2001 for XFree86 to include a lisp interpreter used as a calculator. At the same time, he also made supporting changes to Xaw. This version of xedit also provides simple formatting, indenting and spell-checking (through an interface to ispell).
